ABOUT LAURA
As a Hunter College graduate student obtaining my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling and a certified yoga instructor, I have been developing my relationship with therapy, somatics, and overall mental/emotional wellness for seven years.
I welcome any method of conversation in sessions, with the deep belief that talking itself is healing, and allows us to remove power from the concepts in our minds and give it back to ourselves. Each client has a unique thought process and I aim to meet them with an approach that feels most connected to them, but gravitate toward the use of psychoanalysis (analyzing the past), narrative therapy (analyzing our "stories"), and existential therapy (analyzing existence). I am specifically connected to experiences around anxiety, grief, family, infidelity, self worth, control, and body image, and how such issues are informed by identity and the environments and systems we exist in.
As a mental health professional, I'm moved by the shared curiosity and investment in wellness between both client and counselor, especially in a world that has only recently encouraged this exploration.
Becoming literate in the connection between our minds and bodies has historically been a luxury afforded to those most privileged, and may seem like "nice to have" when seemingly bigger issues are present in our lives. I believe that uncovering and understanding the mind-body relationship is one of the most powerful tools for grounding and healing we have as humans. I take an anti-ableist approach to somatic work and figure out alongside clients what elements of breath and movement resonate with them as it relates to their mental wellbeing.
